Shopify swipe app: how swipe-to-shop works

Updated 2026-11-01 · Would You Swipe It team

A Shopify swipe app presents products one card at a time, while keeping the store's normal product data, cart and checkout. Would You Swipe It adds this optional view to product and collection pages: a shopper can like, skip, inspect details, choose an available variant and add to bag. The merchant can review the activity in the app.

Where does the swipe view appear?

The merchant enables a theme app embed in Shopify's theme editor. The app can offer a Swipe entry on product and collection pages. Shoppers can return to the normal grid; the app does not replace Shopify checkout, prices or inventory.

What happens after a shopper likes a product?

The product enters the shopper's favourites view. They can revisit saved products and add an available variant to their Shopify cart from there. For a logged-in customer, the app can save likes to that customer's app-owned Shopify metafield. Anonymous activity stays separate from customer-specific matching.

What does a skip tell the merchant?

A skip records that the shopper passed on that card. If the merchant enables a short feedback question and the shopper answers it, the report can include a reason such as price, size, colour or style. A skip alone does not reveal why someone passed, and an unanswered question should not be counted as a reason.

Can the app attribute orders to swipes?

The merchant can compare product activity with Shopify orders in the available order window. Matching a specific logged-in shopper's activity uses a customer ID and requires the approved Shopify order and customer scopes. Anonymous shoppers cannot be matched this way. The comparison is useful context, not proof that a swipe caused a purchase.

What should a merchant check before launching it?

  • The app embed is enabled and saved in the theme editor.
  • The Swipe entry and normal grid both work on a product page and a collection page.
  • Variant selection and add-to-cart lead to the expected Shopify cart.
  • The store's consent settings allow the analytics the merchant wants to collect.
