Why Shopify products do not sell and what to inspect

Updated 2026-11-02 · Would You Swipe It team

A Shopify product may receive few orders because shoppers do not find it, the offer is unclear, a variant is unavailable, the page lacks useful details or traffic is poorly matched. Start by checking product views, availability, traffic source, price, shipping and page quality. Do not treat a small number of likes or skips as proof of a single cause.

Check the basics first Verify that the product is published to the right sales channel, has available variants, accurate images, a clear title and current pricing. Test the page on a phone, inspect delivery and return information, and confirm that cart and checkout work.

Compare exposure and intent Use Shopify's own traffic and order reports to see whether the product receives visits. A product with low exposure needs a different response from one with visits but few cart additions. Compare equivalent time periods and account for stockouts, campaigns and seasonality.

Ask shoppers only when useful If consented feedback is enabled, Would You Swipe It can show product views, likes, skips, optional reasons and additions to bag. These are interaction signals, not a representative survey or causal diagnosis. Review them beside catalog, traffic and order data.

Make one change at a time Improve an image or product detail, record the date and compare the next period with a suitable baseline. Avoid changing price, placement and creative simultaneously if you need to understand what changed.
